Hertfordshire

The Young Talent programme has been in place in Hertfordshire since the end of 2021 and is currently working in 11 schools in the county: Stevenage, Hertford, Cheshunt, Hemel, Watford and Tring. Volunteer just one hour a week to make a profound difference in a young person’s life.

Last year, we won Silver at SME Hertfordshire Business Awards 2023.

What is a Mentor

Mentors spend an hour each week listening to and encouraging a young person in their school. The relationship that develops is what makes the difference. Can you help a young person to build their confidence and discover their potential?

What Our Young People Say

“My mentor is just the best. I trust her, she’s honest and she tells it like it is. She gives me advice and she sets me straight and I love that about her. Now I just want to come to school, live a good life, do my work, go home; no drama. Before I was giving all my energy away arguing with my friends, putting my points across – and I’m just not doing it any more."

"My mentor is very understanding and it's good to have someone to talk to. She feels more of a friend than a mentor. It feels like I've known her for a long time even though I haven't known her for that long."

“I got bullied to the point where I didn’t really like going to school because I just thought people were going to keep being rude. I feel like I’m in a different place when I’m with my mentor. She’s helped me so much this year, I’ve had so much going on. We talk about anything; we go for a walk around school, she always asks me if I’ve had a good day."
