We root our mission in the principle that young people are the driver of their own change.
A trusted adult mentor provides the consistent, focussed, emotional support essential for stability, directly addressing the significant wellbeing challenges many young people face. In an era of rising mental health concerns, this confirms that our relationship first model is essential. This level of personal stability and resilience is the platform upon which education attainment, confidence and positive destinations are built.

Changing lives through the power of mentoring

Holly arrived in Scotland from Vietnam and was quickly placed into foster care and enrolled as an S5 pupil. She faced significant language and cultural barriers, feeling often under confident and isolated, which made forming relationships and settling into school difficult.

As Holly’s mentor, Aimee’s role was to provide patience, a listening ear and encouraging presence. Her previous experience mentoring and with English as a second language allowed her to tailor the support perfectly to Holly’s needs.
The power of connection and positive change
Michael's Journey
Michael started Year 11 struggling with attendance, external pressures, and anxiety. His disengagement led to poor behaviour and ungraded mock exam results. By the end of the year and with his mentor’s help, Michael’s focus had vastly improved and his motivation had shifted to achieving for himself.
Matthew's transformation
Matthew was referred to MCR as a care experienced young person presenting as quite low and lacking in confidence. Connected through shared experiences, his mentor immediately helped Matthew rebuild his confidence, providing support and advice during his recovery.
Laura's academic excellence
Laura began her mentoring journey in S3 facing low confidence, a challenging home environment and a lack of focus regarding her post school future. Her immediate need was to stabilise her school engagement. Laura was matched with Val whose consistency was crucial.
Sam's new trajectory
Sam was referred to MCR Pathways as he was at risk of having social worker involvement. Initially, Sam turned down support feeling like it was something he didn’t need. However, Sam recognised that he was struggling with exceptional circumstances in his home-life, and because his brother had spoken highly of mentoring, Sam decided it could be something positive.
Our mission is simple. Connections, powered by a trusted adult relationship.
