YGT’s Plans For Exciting New Mentor Hub Announced

Young Glasgow Talent partners The Herald were first to announce our exciting plans for a new hub for our incredible volunteer mentors.

Our partnership with Glasgow Life will see us develop the iconic Anderston Library space and DNA. With design input from our young people, the space will become YGT’s headquarters as we support volunteers who are ensuring brighter futures for our city’s young people.

The Anderston Library, a former magazine reading room within The Mitchell Library, has now been lying empty for almost three years. It may have been consigned to the archives, if not for YGT adopting the space as our new home.

When Anderston Library opened on 21 December 1904, it was said to be the finest district library building in Glasgow. It was first opened to the public in 1963, and has had various incarnations since then, including a community lending library and a temporary home to Glasgow Women’s Library.

Now it’s being prepared to begin its next life as the dynamic new hub for YGT by MCR Pathways. The team hopes to move into the revitalised space by the end of spring, allowing us to build on the incredible 1000 Glaswegians who have already registered their support.

YGT founder, Iain MacRitchie, was thrilled to work with Glasgow Life on this space. “We are very excited to be moving into the Anderston Library within The Mitchell Library and are hugely grateful to Glasgow Libraries for allowing us to utilise this room and support us to provide new opportunities for young people.
Every step forward we take with MCR Pathways means that more young people are able to benefit. For us, moving into a permanent home in a publically accessible, landmark building will further strengthen our links with the Glasgow community and attract lots of new mentors. It will help us continue to build recognition of the programme and what we aspire to achieve.”
