Meet Our Weegie Hero Alan

Our amazing mentor, Alan MacDonald, is this week’s #weegiehero! A mentor for over 2 years, Alan has shown incredible commitment to Young Glasow Talent. He’s gone above and beyond for his young person, as well as the YGT cause. You might remember him from his great Volunteer Week interview or recognise him in our fantastic new forthcoming marketing materials (keep your eyes peeled!)

Taking part in the recent photoshoot, Alan is supporting our Talent Tasters as we bring on more and more dedicated organisations across Glasgow. Tasters are a radical new approach to work experience, giving YGT young people a few hours’ experience of a job they’d love to try. Then a further half a day experiencing more of that field if they know it’s for them, or a shot at something new if it’s not!

Like a true Weegie Hero, Alan has offered some amazing insight into why he believes mentoring is so important. He’s starred in his very own Weegie Heroes themed video. The perfect way to showcase Alan’s amazing outlook and dedication.

As we move forward with our Public Social Partnership with Glasgow City Council (read more HERE), we’re discovering the “uncapped potential” Alan talks about. Glasgow has so many incredible people living and working here, with a host of different skills, able to truly help the disadvantaged young people of this city. Mentoring really does make the difference, raising attainment and changing lives for the better.

“Many employers are encouraging their employees to volunteer on projects like YGT. So, if you want to put something back into life, don’t hesitate and get in touch with the programme management team. You won’t regret it!”

We have many more young people that need Young Glasgow Talent’s help. They need mentors like you and like Alan, to make a huge difference to their confidence, educational outcomes and future life chances. Can you help them? You’ll guide disadvantaged, but utterly deserving and ambitious, young people through their education. Find out more about Becoming A Mentor.

We’re always looking for new mentors to reach all the new young people who are coming on board with the programme. Help us spread the word by letting your friends and family know how worthwhile mentoring can be!

Can your organisation help? To become involved in our Talent Taster programme, alongside our partners such as Glasgow Life and The Herald, simply GET INVOLVED!!! We can’t wait to work with you to offer our city’s most needy a gateway to an expanding menu of opportunities and tasters of , college, university and employment.
