We’ve just wrapped up a busy summer filled with activities galore! For our city’s care-experienced and disadvantaged young people, summer isn’t always a positive time. To help bring some sunshine, we partnered with Scottish Youth Theatre and Snow Camp to deliver some fun-filled days. We also encouraged our young people to volunteer with the European Championships which, despite the rain, went off without a hitch.

Drama Week with Scottish Youth Theatre
It was Drama with a capital D week for our young people in early July, when a crew of our Young Glasgow Talent pupils attended summer school at Scottish Youth Theatre. Over the week, they flexed their creative muscles, writing, practising and then performing an original piece.
In their performance, our young people explored the idea of stereotypes through a work that combined vignettes, each showing the harm of different prejudices. The two part performance first explore stereotypes about fairy tale villains and heroes. While in the second act, the performers brought the story closer to home and explored stereotypes that directly impact them and other young people in the city.
Snow’d in!
In August a group of our young people hit the slopes, in doors of course! We partnered with Snow-Camp who introduced our young people to snowboarding or skiing at Soar INTU Braehead.
We attended sessions over two days where they learned the basics of their chosen sport. Not only that, some of our older pupils who took part in the course last year returned as instructors. Young people attending Snow-Camp have the opportunity to continue with the programme and attain instructor qualifications, allowing them entry into a rewarding and exciting career path! European Championships
This year’s European Championship was jointly held in Glasgow and Berlin from the 1st of August to the 11th. We had several young people volunteering during different sporting events and the MCR team and interns spent a day at Go Live at the Green, recruiting new mentors. Thanks Volunteer Scotland for organising the charity presence at the event!
