A charity is expanding its operation into the north-east with an initiative it hopes will help more than 250 disadvantaged youngsters.
MCR Pathways, based in Glasgow, is launching its Young Scottish Talent programme in six secondary schools – St Machar, Banff, Inverurie, Fraserburgh and Peterhead academies, as well as the Gordon Schools – after the summer holidays.
A mentor meets a young person weekly in their school and it’s hoped these role models will build confidence, aspirations and a route into meaningful training or employment.
Iain MacRitchie, founder of MCR Pathways, said: “A young person’s future should be determined by their potential, never their circumstances.”
The first information event for individuals and businesses keen to support the programme in the north-east will be held at The Wood Foundation’s office in Aberdeen on Monday.
