Young National Advisory Board

MCR Pathways is committed to fostering inclusivity and diversity, recognising the invaluable perspectives that young people bring to the table. To ensure that the voices of our young people are not only heard but actively contribute to our decision-making processes, we have established a Young National Advisory Board (YNAB).

This dedicated board consists of passionate and dynamic young leaders who serve as advocates for the interests and concerns of our younger members. By incorporating their fresh ideas and unique insights, we aim to create a more vibrant and forward-thinking organisation that truly reflects the diverse needs of all its members. This initiative not only empowers young people within our organisation but also demonstrates our commitment to creating an environment where every member’s voice is given the importance it deserves.

Our Board

Susanne Richards

Hi, I’m Susanne and I am 21 years old. I first met my MCR Pathways Mentor, Jenny, when I was in my third year of high school, at a time when I was struggling to take school seriously and not getting on well with my teachers. I always had goals, however I lacked self-confidence. Jenny helped me to recognise my potential and our relationship was the foundation of so many amazing things.

I am now studying for my LLB in Scots and English Law at the University of Strathclyde, and working in a role which allows me to advocate for change for other care experienced young people. Jenny and I are still in contact, and I now see her as one of my closest friends. We still try to meet up regularly and she has been one of my biggest supporters after the birth of my son!

Amie Hamilton

Hi! My name is Amie and I am part of the YNAB group here at MCR Pathways.

I began my journey as a mentee on the programme when I was in high school. It took us a while to find my person, but we got there eventually!

I was paired with Mandy who became my role model and set me straight. I am now working towards my LLB in Scot’s Law at University. I am excited to see where this takes me and I have come a long way with this course since doing my HND at College.

My hobbies aren’t particularly exciting – if I’m not at uni or work, I’m either studying, reading or on a long walk with my dogs – pictured in my image, he’s never far away!

Afonso Cardoso

Hi! I am Afonso and I started on the programme as a young person with my mentor Craig. To this day, we are still friends and I am so happy that he is only a phone call away.

Looking back, I had no clue what I wanted to do and worked through a few options with the help of Craig. Now, I am a fully qualified electrician and get to travel around the whole of Scotland and absolutely love my career. This has inspired me to work towards new qualifications and new skills. I would love to start my own company in the future.

My hobbies include martial arts, DJing and spending time and socialising with my friends.
