On Saturday, September 13, 2025, three of our incredible MCR Pathways team will be taking on the Impetus Triathlon in Dorney Lake.
This isn’t just an athletic feat; it’s a powerful demonstration of commitment to a cause that changes lives. Katy Scott, Alice Chalret, and Kyria Cardy will swim, cycle, and run their way through a demanding course, all to raise vital funds for our life-changing programme.
We sat down with our inspirational Triathlon team to find out a little more about what motivated them to take on this behemoth challenge, all to change lives.

First up is Alice Chalret, our Partnerships and Mentor Recruitment Manager for West London.
Her role is all about building connections with local residents and businesses to inspire more people to become mentors. Alice will be tackling the running portion of the event, and quite literally taking steps for change.
What made you decide to take on a triathlon for MCR Pathways?
“I thought it was a fun and unique way to talk about MCR Pathways and the young people we support. It’s a great chance to raise awareness while doing something a bit out of the ordinary and hopefully start a few good conversations along the way.”
What’s been the hardest part of your training?
“Running isn’t in my DNA, but after pushing myself for a few weeks, I now get it! It’s become a great way to release stress and challenge myself physically and mentally.”
What are you most excited (and most nervous) about on race day?
“I absolutely love running with others, so I’m most excited to feel the energy of the group and be carried along by that shared momentum. I’m not nervous at all because this isn’t about performance for me; it’s about enjoying the challenge and showing what’s possible when we support one another.”
How do you hope that your fundraising can help a young person?
“I hope it helps a young person overcome self-doubt and realise they’re capable of more than they think. Having the support of a mentor can make such a difference – it gives you the confidence to step outside your comfort zone and try things you might never have thought possible.”
What message would you give to someone who believes that one person’s efforts can’t make a real difference?
“I’d share the story of the hummingbird: when a forest was on fire, the tiny bird carried drops of water in its beak. The other animals pointed out that a few drops would never be enough, but the hummingbird replied, ‘I know, but I’m doing my part.’ Every small action matters, and when we all do our bit, change happens. Doing this triathlon reminds me that whether it’s running a race or mentoring a young person, progress begins with a single step!”
Our next brave team member is Katy Scott, who is our Senior Marketing and Communications Officer.
Katy has been a driving force behind our mission for two years. Her role is incredibly varied, from creating social media campaigns to writing press releases and articles, as well as producing our internal and external newsletters. Katy will be taking on the cycling portion of the event, hopping back on her bike after many years just for the occasion.
What made you decide to take on a triathlon for MCR Pathways?
“Having seen countless stories and statistics about the life-changing impact of our mentoring programme, I know how important our fundraising efforts are. While my work helps contribute to this, I wanted to personally challenge myself and raise funds directly, just as I’ve seen so many of my colleagues do. I also wanted to push my own limits. I hadn’t been on a bike in years, so this triathlon is about showing that with commitment and dedication, you can truly achieve anything.”
What’s been the most challenging part of your training?
“The hardest part has definitely been training in Manchester, where it rains most of the time! Getting out for a bike ride in the pouring rain has been tough, especially after a long day at work. But in a way it’s a good parallel to the MCR Pathways program, it’s about showing up and pushing through, even when the conditions aren’t perfect.”
What are you most excited (and most nervous) about on race day?
“I’m most excited for the finish line! I can’t wait to see all the hard work the team has put in pay off and to know I’ve completed something I never thought I’d do. My biggest worry is the possibility of rain, even though you’d think I’d be prepared for it by now!”
How do you hope that your fundraising can help a young person?
“I hope my efforts help a young person overcome the limit of self-doubt. While most people experience this, it’s so important to push yourself and see the great things you can achieve, which is exactly what I’m doing.”
What message would you give to someone who believes that one person’s efforts can’t make a real difference?
“I’d tell them that I’ve seen firsthand how one person’s effort can change a life. The simple act of a mentor showing up consistently, week after week, has a transformative impact that lasts a lifetime. All it takes is one hour a week.”
Last but not least, we have our final team member Kyria Cardy!
Kyria is a Pathways Coordinator at Christ’s College in Guildford. Kyria has chosen to take on the swimming portion of the Triathlon in an effort to challenge herself, as Kyria rarely shies away from the opportunity to try something new.
What made you decide to take on a triathlon for MCR Pathways?
“I’ve done races before, but this day will be much more exciting because I’m part of a team, which I’ve never been before. I also really want to support MCR Pathways’ work because our mentors are so wonderful. They help give a young person direction, confidence, and positivity, which can change the entire outcome of their life. We can all individually do something, and the resulting whole of that can be amazing.”
What are you most excited (and nervous) about on race day?
“I always feel nervous on race day, but I think that just means it’s worth doing. I would like to try for a respectable time, but mostly I am just excited to be part of the team and make it to the finish line.”
Good luck #TeamMCR!
We want to wish Katy, Alice, and Kyria the very best of luck with their final preparations for the Impetus Triathlon. Their dedication is an inspiration, and we can’t wait to cheer them on every step of the way.
