Did you feel it in the air? The excitement? The possibility? The collective enthusiasm of more than 310 young people exploring their futures? That’s right, it’s the end of Talent Taster season!
What are Talent Tasters?
Talent Tasters are bite sized job, college, university, arts or sports sessions that are designed to inspire and motivate young people about the opportunities available to them after they leave school. The programme was created using the input of young people and our partner organisations – making it fun and engaging for everyone involved.
Taster experiences open up new worlds to our young people. They give them the chance to explore roles and industries they may never even have heard of and help to spark their passions. Tasters aim to let young people discover a pathway to the career of their dreams and show them the qualifications they need to achieve to get there.
With our partner organisations, we host two tranches of Tasters each year: in October and November and in February and March.
This tranche was our biggest one ever! There were 539 sessions booked at organisations all across Glasgow.
Talent Tasters Work
Talent Tasters have helped dramatically increase school staying on rates and educational engagement in young people by helping our young people envision their futures.
One young person who attended a Factoring Agent Talent Taster with Wheatley Group came out certain about her future path. They said, “I enjoyed all of the Taster because this made me discover that this is what I want to do when I leave school. I was a bit 50/50 with getting involved in the industry before, but now I know I want to.”
Another boy Mark had a brilliant time at the Victor Pizza Talent Taster. His Pathways Coordinator told us, “he loved it and would’ve happily stayed on working for the rest of the day. He plans to apply for part time work when he turns 16 in March. Marks said it was really good fun and the best taster he has been on.”
