Hannah Magill Wins Foundation Apprenticeship of the Year

2 March 2026

We are absolutely delighted to announce that Hannah Magill has been named Foundation Apprenticeship of the Year: truly well-deserved recognition of her dedication, talent and hard work.

As proud sponsors of this award category, it is especially rewarding to celebrate Hannah’s outstanding achievements during her placement at Fishermoss Primary School in Aberdeenshire.

Throughout her Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services: Children and Young People, Hannah demonstrated exceptional commitment, professionalism and a genuine passion for supporting children’s learning and development.

“Doing the Foundation Apprenticeship really boosted my confidence and communication skills – I went from being shy and timid to being able to teach a whole class and hold conversations with pupils and staff easily, ” says Hannah.

Hannah continues: “My research skills improved during the apprenticeship, and I gained lots of knowledge about how children develop, process information and how their brains work, which definitely helped with my university application. Teaching the children to sign Silent Night and seeing the confidence it gave them inspires me to look for the hidden talents in everyone.”

Her success does not stop there. Hannah has now secured a place on the Primary Teaching course at the University of Dundee, an incredible next step and a testament to the impact of her apprenticeship experience.

The Scottish Apprenticeship Awards showcase apprentices, employers and learning providers from across the country and a range of sectors. The awards highlight the vital benefits apprenticeships bring to individuals, employers and the economy.

Award categories celebrate the incredible work of Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprentices. They also recognise the exceptional organisations who champion and support apprenticeships.

Winners were revealed at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards ceremony, which served as the launch event for Scottish Apprenticeship Week.

Apprenticeships offer much more than a qualification. For growing numbers of young people, it’s the first step towards a career, independence, structure, income and belonging. The spark of aspiration can ignite in many ways. For some, it’s through the guidance of a trusted adult mentor at school.

This event highlighted the crucial partnership between third sector organisations like MCR Pathways, educational institutions, training providers, and industry employers. It showcases how seamlessly businesses, charities and schools can work together to cultivate new talent, providing young people with essential skills and guidance on paths to brighter futures.

“My role presenting  an award to the winner of the Foundation Apprentice award was a very special experience, celebrating the dedication of incredibly talented young people  who are actively bridging the gap between education and the workforce, ” says Sharon McIntyre, Chief Executive Officer at MCR Pathways.

Sharon continues: “MCR Pathways, together with Skills Development Scotland and sponsors, see the demonstrable difference in the Foundation Apprenticeship for school pupils balancing their regular studies with real-world, hands-on industry experience. This award recognises this dedication, and for many, it marks a significant development of confidence encouraging them to pursue their career dreams ,  empowering them to pursue further education, higher apprenticeships, or direct employment.
