Meet MCR’s Pioneering Partners!

“Our College gives staff the time to mentor. There is a cost to the college, with the mentor being away from their work, but we’ve decided that that cost is outweighed by the benefits that our staff get. Benefit in terms of knowledge, realising they have made a contribution and also an understanding of what the reality is for a large number of citizens of the city. That all contributes greatly to how your organisation develops and works within the context of the city.”

#HelpingHands is MCR Pathways latest campaign. We’re sharing the incredible stories of our volunteer mentors, young people and partners. We want to inspire 1000 more Glaswegians to get involved. To offer your helping hand!

The only qualification you need is to want to help a young person. To offer a listening, supportive ear. MCR will provide everything else that young person needs through our Young Glasgow Talent programme. There are 1356 young Glaswegians who will benefit phenomenally by someone simply being there for them.

Today we’ll hear from Alan Sherry, Principal of Glasgow Kelvin College. The College has been a phenomenal Pioneering Partner of MCR Pathways since pledging their support in 2015. They ensure all young people with aspirations of college, and their mentors, are fully informed of all Further and Higher Education pathways and opportunities. Kelvin also open their doors, delivering Talent Tasters. Their inspiring staff, with expertise in subjects from hair and beauty to mechanics, help our young people explore industries! They also support and inform their staff to become volunteer mentors. Incredible Kelvin employees like Barbie are actively encouraged to support our city’s care experienced and disadvantaged young people. Offering a listening ear for one hour a week.

Glasgow Kelvin is an incredible MCR partner. Both organisations share many values, including ensuring equal educational opportunities for all of Glasgow’s young people. Regardless of their background. Hear from Alan as he explains the benefits of the partnership. The benefits the College also takes from being involved.

We have so many more inspiring young people signing up for MCR Pathway’s help and to become part of our Young Glasgow Talent programme. Our young people need mentors to make a huge difference to their confidence, educational outcomes and future life chances. Can you help them? Find out more about becoming a mentor.

Can your organisation help? To become involved in our Talent Taster programme, alongside our partners such as Glasgow Kelvin College, City Building, The Herald and Wheatley Group, get involved.

Help us spread the word by letting your friends and family know how hugely rewarding mentoring can be!
