Meet Phenomenal Weegie Hero Afonso

What makes a Weegie Hero? It’s someone who goes above and beyond with Young Glasgow Talent. Our young people go above and beyond every day, taking the time to bond with their mentors. Investing so much into their futures.

These relationships have many positive outcomes, sometimes in the shape of a huge boost in confidence, sometimes it comes with opportunities for the young people. Such as going together to Talent Tasters that are of interest, or spending time figuring out what our their dream career is.

It has been shown time and again the incredible impact a supportive relationship can have on a young person. Especially when it comes to helping work towards positive destinations after school. Just an hour a week with someone who is there just for a young person can help shape their future to something they can’t wait to work hard towards.

We’ve been lucky enough to catch some time with Afonso, a truly inspirational young person who’s found the perfect mentor for him. He’s learned a lot from Craig, who has been there to help Afonso figure out what his dream job is and support him towards that aspiration. After learning so much about Craig’s work at National Rail, Afonso has decided to follow in his footsteps! Having now landed a scholarship with the company as he commences his HNC in Manufacturing Engineering before he’ll complete his HND in Mechanical Engineering.

A huge congratulations to Afonso, and Craig, for making the most of their relationship. It shows yet again the transformative power of mentoring! Listen to Afonso tell the story himself, here:
