Dear Mentor,

We recently wrote to you about the MCR Programme in Highland.

There’s been a lot of work going on in the background between MCR Pathways and Highland Council to shape how the mentoring programme might work in the future. This is in preparation for a transition to a Highland-wide mentoring programme intended to provide a positive opportunity to improve the universal and targeted education and employability services for young people across the region.

The MCR programme has been over 15 years in development and has been active in Highland since 2021. It is continuously refined by our young people. MCR Pathways are committed to taking the Council through how the programme works to transfer as much knowledge as possible to prepare for this transition.

In the meantime, MCR Pathways Coordinators and the MCR Pathways Highland Team are continuing to support the programme in schools for the 350 young people and 200 local mentors currently involved. All the Pathways Coordinators remain in their roles and are tasked to continue delivering the MCR programme as usual, as we know that continuing group work and mentoring is so critical to ensure the support remains in place for our young people.

Please continue doing what you do so well: being with your mentee for one hour a week and transforming their lives. Your contribution is highly valued and appreciated by MCR and Highland Council, by the school, and most importantly by the young people you are working with. If you have not yet got a mentor match, your Pathways Coordinator will continue to work to find a suitable young person we feel you’d be a good match with.

Discussions between both parties will continue, and both sides are committed to ensuring our young people are supported and have a bright future ahead.

We will keep in touch with you when we have more news to share.

From all your Highland Council and Highland MCR Team,

Caroline Purves
