“We very quickly saw the programme was going to work. This grew from an aspiration to a reality in a very short time,” Tommy Donnelly, Deputy Head Teacher, St Roch’s Secondary.

MCR’s Progress – A look at St. Roch’s

The General Teaching Council Scotland is the professional body for teaching in Scotland. It shapes the teaching profession, ensuring a high quality of education across the country.

With MCR’s Young Glasgow Talent programme now fully embedded across the secondary education system in Glasgow, GTCS visited one of our earliest partner schools, Saint Roch’s Secondary, to learn about the difference MCR is making to care experienced and disadvantaged young people in their school.

“News spread to other pupils and they started asking for mentors too. This grew from an aspiration to a reality in a very short time,” Tommy Donnelly, Deputy Head Teacher.

“This programme is a real extra arm to the support we can offer our pupils,” said head teacher Stephen Stone. “The young people are mee4ting mentors who actively want to be there for them.”
